Day 8 – Small Money for a Great Return – Re-Housing Homeless Individuals

Over the past two weeks, we have undertaken a major outreach to our community partners that provide homeless service support.

We created a hybrid housing education opportunity, where we are holding SMART Tenant and Financial Assistance workshops. Usually, these two workshops are held seperately.

The objective is to provide prospective tenants with educaion around housing search & selection, pre-move in inspections, entering into rental agreements or leases, communication with the landlord, maintaining the tenancy, reporting health code violation reporting, dealing with pest infestation, Fair Housing and eviction prevention.

The SMART Tenant workshop was developed as a direct result of ALOT of aggregated data gleaned from working with nearly 7,000 households annually. Each housing concern that is brought before us at the Community Teamwork Resource Center is unique. However, there are similar “tenancy pitfall” strands that run consistently throughout those households we work with on a daily basis. Housing Education is the BEST prevention practice to keep our community members housed. Continue reading
