I would like to offer a suggestion for a formation of an A-Team of partners to help with the homeless population in the Merimack Valley to help guide them into different programs suitable for their specific needs.The team should consist of a Homeless outreach counselor, a clinician,Dmh outreach support,Veteran peer specialist,VA outreach specialist to name a few. Between the Comminity partners of CTI,LTLC,VA,DMH,Elliot services etc.This can be achieved at less cost than what we think. Thanks

Thank you for your comment Ron. Make no mistake, there is no magic bullet. It’s easy enough to expend dollars to re-house. It’s another story entirely to keep them housed. All of these individuals require sound case management, which they have in place. Case management is being provided by a licensed clinician whose primary responsibility is stabilize and keep their client housed. Unfortunately, the shelters don’t always prioritize health risk as a criteria for admittance.

Thank you for giving us a glimpse into the lives of those living in these campsites we all see. I am curious, however, whether the remedies to their plight are as much of a “magic bullet” as you claim they are. For example, if we were get an update on the disposition of the 3 homeless people you profiled here, are they currently housed? That is assuming the six of you that visited their camp pooled together and gave the two men $25 a piece for IDs. Also, why doesn’t the shelter grant preference for people with serious health issues such as this young woman?

Like to hear more on some of the:
“…tenants with educaion around housing search & selection, pre-move in inspections, entering into rental agreements or leases, communication with the landlord, maintaining the tenancy, reporting health code violation reporting, dealing with pest infestation, Fair Housing and eviction prevention…
similar “tenancy pitfall” strands that run consistently throughout those households we work with…”

but not all.

It’s fantastic as to how we helped in some small way to help them that is why I’m committed to the homeless veteran population. Stories like this make it all worth while!

Sure like to get a hard copy of the addresses and esp the Q & A session that may end this, the “8th Conference”. (How could I f/u?) I’m curious as to how needs can be met of this – the ‘growingest’ segment of our population – while revenues collapse and the state attempts to expand services in so many areas…
