The Coalition for a Better Acre
Seeks Part Time (20 hour per week) Khmer Community Organizer
The Coalition for a Better Acre is a membership based community development corporation dedicated to resident empowerment and sustainable community revitalization for current and future residents of Lowell, MA. We promote healthy, vibrant neighborhoods by developing resident leaders, affordable housing and economic opportunities, and by responding to community needs through collective action. § Staff organizing campaigns that will improve the lives of people in Lowell and strengthen the community. Successful campaigns will result in more affordable housing, safer living and neighborhood conditions, better services, or other outcomes identified by the community.
§ Recruit and develop a deep, diverse membership among individuals throughout the City of Lowell.
§ Develop diverse leadership to work on organizing campaigns and to participate at all levels of CBA.
§ Liaison to neighborhood associations, community groups, church leaders, civic groups, and others in multiple neighborhoods of Lowell to build relationships and form partnerships.
§ Increase CBA’s visibility and project a unified image among a broad range of stakeholders and residents.
§ Work with leaders on local fundraising campaigns and membership, supporting CBA in achieving fundraising goals. Assist the organization with overall fundraising efforts, including grant writing and reporting.
§ Other duties as assigned.
§ Two to three years as a community, congregation-based, or labor organizer is ideal.
§ Proven ability or demonstrated potential (in related work) to recruit members, build leaders, and staff successful organizing campaigns with quantifiable outcomes.
§ Strong commitment to working with a diverse group of people and building diverse leadership. Experience working in diverse communities.
§ Excellent team building skills, ability to work cooperatively with the staff, board, and community members.
§ Excellent communication skills, ability to build strong relationships with others.
§ Demonstrated commitment to the community development field, and to building community/ resident leadership in the work of a CDC.
Bilingual, bicultural ability in Khmer strongly preferred.
