Senior Associate Director of Annual Giving/Director of Bates Fund Leadership Giving
Department College Advancement -Alumni Fund Job status Full Time, Full Year SUMMARY AND SCOPE OF POSITIONAs part of the Annual Giving team, the Senior Associate Director of Annual Giving/Director of Bates Fund Leadership Giving devises and implements a strategy focused around individual outreach and prospect management that results in increased Bates Fund revenues and a strong pipeline of major gift supporters for future campaigns. He/she manages and mentors a team of frontline fundraisers whose primary responsibility is to cultivate, solicit, and steward alumni and parent donors with the capacity to make leadership-level annual fund gifts. The Director also manages his/her own portfolio of 150-200 prospective leadership-level annual fund donors. This position helps to supervise an administrative assistant. Frequent travel and occasional evening and weekend work are required. Confidentiality is absolutely necessary.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
-Train, motivate, and mentor three frontline fundraisers with responsibility for developing relationships and raising money from assigned prospect pools.
-Enhance program metrics and engage in ongoing data analysis to assess performance and determine territory and segmentation strategies, as well as prioritize tactics and new initiatives.
-Cultivate, solicit, and steward an assigned portfolio of 150-200 prospective leadership-level annual fund ($1,855 – $10,000) donors according to best-practice standards.
-Spend 6-8 days per month traveling both independently and with Bates Fund volunteers and staff or other members of the College administration to meet with current and prospective donors. Complete 75 personal visits annually.
-Attend and support appropriate alumni and donor events on- and off-campus.
ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS
-Provide feedback to help identify, qualify, and assign new prospective leadership donors.
-Work one-on-one as well as collaboratively through group meetings with Annual Giving, Leadership Giving, Advancement Research, and Alumni & Parent Programs colleagues to plan cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies/activities for prospective donors – especially those coming into their Reunion year.
-Develop a thorough knowledge of Bates College history, academic and extracurricular programs, and its faculty, students and administration.
-Maintain a thorough understanding of the College’s current priorities and initiatives.
-Participate in departmental and professional training programs to increase expertise in the profession.
-Other duties as assigned by the Director of Annual Giving.
The successful candidate should:
-Possess a B.A. degree and have significant frontline fundraising experience in higher education institutional advancement or transferrable skills. Management experience is strongly desired.
-Have excellent listening skills with proven experience building and sustaining quality relationships. An ability to engage with a variety of constituencies with varying interests and perspectives is important.
-Be an energetic, self-starting strategic thinker with strong organizational skills.
-Have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
-Maintain a good understanding and working knowledge of database systems and business office software. Familiarity with SCT Banner for Advancement is preferred, but not required.
-Have a personal commitment to excellence and the mission of a top-tier liberal arts college, and the ability to work in a fast-paced, goal-oriented environment.
