UTEC (United Teen Equality Center) has 2 VISTA positions available starting July 2012 and running through July 2013. One VISTA will work in Development and the other in Evaluation and Learning. Below is a quick intro to UTEC and the 2 job descriptions with links to the full position postings.
The United Teen Equality Center (UTEC) was founded in 1999 in Lowell, MA, as the result of an organizing movement by young people to develop their own teen center in response to gang violence. Today UTEC is a nationally recognized as a model youth development agency, and our mission and promise is to ignite and nurture the ambition of Lowell’s most disconnected youth to trade violence and poverty for social and economic success. UTEC’s target population is 16-24 year olds who have dropped out of school and are gang-involved, criminally-involved, homeless, and/or parents. Through its holistic model, which includes intensive case management, workforce, education, enrichment and youth organizing programs, UTEC encourages and develops the skills, talents, and interests of youth and assists them in reaching major milestones.
About the Development VISTA Position: http://www.utec-lowell.org/uploads/uploads/americorps_vista_resource_development_final.pdf
UTEC receives funding from a variety of sources. Historically, most of this funding has come from grants, contracts, and foundations. A small percentage of our funds currently come from individuals and smaller private sources. It is our goal to solidify and increase our presence with individual donors. While UTEC serves a local population, our model is nationally recognized and resonates with individual constituents outside of Lowell City limits. With the opening of our LEED Platinum certified green building in the fall, we will have additional resources to engage new supporters. The VISTA position is designed to help with all of these goals and objectives by working with the Development team. About the Evaluation Assistant VISTA Position: http://www.utec-lowell.org/uploads/uploads/americorps_vista_evaluation_assistant_final.pdf
UTEC is a data- and outcomes-driven organization always seeking to expand its capacity to use data for reflective practice and program refinement. UTEC’s evaluation work consists of three major areas: internal documentation and reporting using Efforts to Outcomes (ETO), a web-based database for UTEC staff to record their work; external partnerships with evaluators; and primary and secondary research on youth development practices. We are looking for a critical and systems thinker who can assist in all three areas. More info here: http://www.utec-lowell.org/uploads/uploads/americorps_vista_evaluation_assistant_final.pdf
