New Lease for Homeless Families

New Lease for Homeless Families is a start-up non-profit organization that will address family homelessness in Massachusetts by providing affordable apartments to homeless families.  A group of affordable housing owners will provide vacant units to families coming out of motels, hotels and shelters. New Lease will bring together these property owners to work collaboratively with social service providers, the families and state agencies to accomplish this mission.

New Lease is seeking an experienced professional to be the founding Executive Director.  The Executive Director will provide strategic leadership, forge strong partnerships with diverse stakeholders and oversee all aspects of the organization’s activities.  This position will be based in Boston.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic direction for the organization.
  • Work with the founding board members to set organizational goals.
  • Provide financial management.
  • Support the fundraising efforts of the board.
  • Hire, train and support two staff members.
  • Frequent public speaking at conferences, trainings and other events.
  • Fully develop New Lease’s system for matching families to units.  Develop partnerships with property owners, social service providers, state and federal agencies to work through the specifics of affordability, tenant selection, unit marketing, support services for the families, etc.
  • Manage the system for matching families to units.  Market the units, review applications and support property managers, families and social service providers during the tenant selection process and lease-up period.
  • Develop and manage efforts to support stable tenancies with New Lease partners.
  • Set-up data systems to track and measure outcomes.  Make program adjustments based on outcomes.

Qualifications

  • At least ten years experience in a senior level position(s), preferably in the non-profit or public sector
  • Knowledge of affordable housing and homelessness programs and policies at the local, state and federal levels.
  • Ability to work with diverse constituencies and stakeholders including excellent facilitation and consensus building skills.
  • Experience working with homeless families or other disadvantaged populations.
  • Experience in financial management.
  • Experience in hiring and supervising staff and knowledge of human resources practices.
  • Experience and commitment to developing, tracking and measuring outcomes to drive program design.
  • Experience in fundraising and grants management.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including public speaking.
  • Experience with program design and implementation.
  • Ability to periodically travel to meetings across the state.  Driver’s license required.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, patience, open mindedness, respect for others’ perspectives and a sense of humor.
  • Commitment to expanding affordable housing for homelessness families.

Salary:  The salary is commensurate with experience.  New Lease provides a generous benefit package.

Housing Support Services Director

New Lease will bring together these property owners to work collaboratively with social service providers, the families and state agencies to accomplish this mission.

New Lease is seeking an experienced social services/resident services professional to develop and manage efforts to support stable tenancies and strong families in collaboration with New Lease partner organizations.   The Housing Support Services Director will work closely with the Executive Director on overall program development and implementation.  This position will be based in Boston.

Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively with the executive director to manage the system for matching families to units.  Review housing applications and family stabilization plans.   Support property managers and social service providers during the tenant selection process and lease-up period to ensure that families have a strong housing stabilization plan.
  • Support property managers, resident service coordinators and social services housing stabilization staff to work as a team to help the families maintain stable tenancies and gain access to job, education, childcare, healthcare and other key services that promote family stability.
  • Develop and conduct trainings for property management staff and social service provider staff around New Lease systems and strategies to support stable tenancies and strong families.
  • Frequent public speaking at conferences, trainings and other events.
  • Work with executive director to track and measure outcomes.  Make program adjustments based on outcomes.
  • Manage the tenant emergency housing fund set-up for New Lease families struggling to pay rent due to a family emergency.

Qualifications

  • At least ten years experience in a supportive services management or similar position(s).   Experience supervising direct service staff preferred.
  • Significant direct experience working with homeless families or other disadvantaged populations strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to access government and community services available to disadvantaged populations.
  • MSW, MPH, MA in Counseling, Human Services, or B.S. in related field preferred.
  • Experience developing and conducting trainings.
  • Experience managing emergency housing funds.
  • Ability to periodically travel to meetings across the state.  Driver’s license required.
  • Knowledge of affordable housing and homelessness programs and policies at the local, state and federal levels.
  • Ability to work with diverse constituencies and stakeholders including excellent facilitation and consensus building skills.
  • Experience and commitment to developing, tracking and measuring outcomes to drive program design.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including public speaking.
  • Experience with program design and implementation.
