Beginning this week, many people in Massachusetts have received notification from the Department of Unemployment Assistance (DUA) that their Unemployment Insurance (UI) benefits will stop after December 29, 2012 due to the end of federal extensions. Additionally, DUA is providing all unemployment insurance claimants with information about how to connect to services provided by state agencies and non-profit providers, including organizations like yours.
The Executive Offices of Labor and Workforce Development (EOLWD) and Health and Human Services (EOHHS) are working on a set of coordinated activities to connect people impacted by the loss of UI benefits with other resources available in the Commonwealth. In anticipation of the possibility that these individuals may be contacting your agency for assistance, EOLWD and EOHHS will be hosting briefing sessions through two one hour conference calls. The goals of the briefing session are to inform service organizations of expected trends in the number of unemployment insurance claimants likely to exhaust benefits and provide referral information to service organizations about how best to assist claimants.
The calls will be held on Monday, December 3. The following are the times and conference call details.
- 10:00-11:00am: If you wish to participate in the call, please dial 1-866-565-6580, Passcode: 9593452.
- 4:00-5:00pm: If you wish to participate in the call, please dial 1-866-565-6580, Passcode: 9593452.
Each session will accommodate up to 100 callers and will cover the same presentation. In order to accommodate as many people as possible on each call, we ask that you only join the call if you anticipate receiving requests for assistance from claimants and that no more than one person from each agency dial into the conference line.
Additionally, a presentation has been developed to guide the briefing session, which includes the key “take away” information being discussed during the conference call. You may access the presentation as early as tomorrow afternoon at:
A Microsoft Word document and a PowerPoint slide deck can be downloaded for your review during the call. The information in the two documents is identical. The Microsoft Word document is a more accessible format for software readers.
Thank you so much for your interest and willingness to assist in this important endeavor.
